“The character class went great! We started with attentiveness and the kids loved it. It was very well done, and the balance of sit and listen vs. do things was great. We were able to keep the kids’ attention pretty well, and they loved getting treats incorporated into the lesson.”

“We have truly been enjoying the [Inspire character curriculum]. It is well laid out, well-written, and easy to understand. Our church is unique in that we can have 3 children for Sunday school or 20 and you have to be prepared for both. This curriculum has made it possible to effectively prepare for both sizes as we were able to do the verse, songs, and lesson together as a group and then we separate for different activities…We would be interested in purchasing more units so please let me know when they become available!”

Why Teach Character?

Frequently Asked Questions

What age group is this curriculum for?

The INSPIRE Curriculum is generally recommended for students 5–12 years of age. However, even children outside of the recommended age group may benefit from the lessons. Take a look at the sample curriculum we provide to see if INSPIRE is right for you! It’s free after all.

What is the ideal group size for this curriculum?

We encourage you to teach the curriculum in two settings: Part 1 (“Large Group”) and Part 2 (“Small Group”). Part 1 is meant to be taught in a collective setting, with as many children in the audience as you want. The teacher can teach songs, verses, and more, but lengthy discussion and hands-on participation would be better for Part 2. Part 2 is meant to be taught in a smaller group setting, with 5–8 children per teacher. With a smaller group, the teacher can have more discussion and encourage individual participation.

Can I adjust or customize this curriculum to my classroom needs?

Absolutely! There are many ideas in the INSPIRE Curriculum, but you know your class the best. You can choose to follow the curriculum exactly as written, or you can pick and choose whichever ideas work best for you within each week. There are also Additional Resources (extra ideas) in the back of the curriculum. (But don’t feel like you have to teach all the ideas in the curriculum—there are a lot.)

Are visuals provided?

Yes! There are story visuals, pictures, activity sheets, coloring pages, and more. You can easily download the PDFs from the INSPIRE website and print them out. They are organized by character quality and teaching week. We recommend having a color printer because many of the visuals and pictures look best with color!

We also have PowerPoint™ presentations with all the visuals for each lesson. You can purchase and download the PowerPoint™ presentations to play on a big screen.

Is this curriculum affiliated with a certain church denomination?

No. The INSPIRE Curriculum is produced by In The Gap, Inc., a non-denominational non-profit ministry based in Oklahoma City.

In The Gap exists to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ and to equip upcoming generations to pursue moral excellence, whole-heartedly stand for what is right, and to become positive role models who will transform our community, state, and nation for generations to come. What is a “biblically-based character curriculum”?

It’s a curriculum that explores what the Bible says about Christ-like character (like obedience, truthfulness, and gratefulness—just to name a few). Therefore, INSPIRE is a topical curriculum rather than a chronological or book-by-book curriculum. There are many great curriculums on the market that take you from Genesis to Revelation, but if you’re looking for a biblically-based character curriculum, you can try INSPIRE!

Are there only 12 qualities available?

Yes, right now there are 12 character qualities available. More are on the way, so stay tuned! If you’d like to sign up for periodic updates and insider deals, you’ll be notified when they are released.

Do you offer printed curriculum?

At this time, we only offer INSPIRE as a digital curriculum in PDF format. However, we will let you know if that changes in the future! Sign up for updates here. (We promise we won’t spam you!) If you prefer to work off of a traditional booklet and you have a printer handy, you can also print the curriculum at home.

Our Prayer for You

Thank you for your interest in the INSPIRE Curriculum! Whether you are teaching using the INSPIRE Curriculum or not, this is our prayer for you.

“Father in Heaven, thank you so much for the teachers and parents who want to teach their kids to love You and walk in Your ways. We pray that You would bless them with the wisdom they need to teach their students well. Help them to stay faithful to the gospel message and to Your Word. And may they experience the joy and rewards that come from guiding children to Jesus’ loving presence. We pray in Your name and for Your glory, amen.”
